Nepal is home to nine national parks, four wildlife reserves, and three conservation areas, covering an area of approximately 15,000 square kilometers. The Terai region, located in the lowlands, is characterized by a belt of floodplains that stretch from the Indian border to the base of the Bhabhar and Siwalik mountain ranges. This area is known for its tall grasslands and diverse forests, including riverine and hardwood Sal forests.

In terms of geography, Nepal can be divided into three main regions: mountains, hills, and plains. Within this small country of 147,181 square kilometers, a wide range of topography and climate zones can be found. From subtropical jungles to arctic highlands, Nepal boasts a rich variety of ecosystems.

This biodiversity makes Nepal one of the top ecotourism destinations in the world, with nearly 19% of the country’s land designated as protected wildlife areas.
